Care for Pregnant Women

We have received a grant from the Slingshot Burma Fund, a 510(c)3 organization, for $19,333 for the period of October 2009 to September 2010. Part of this grant will be used to provide pre and post natal care for approximately 100 women living in the border area.  These women would not otherwise receive any care and would deliver at home.

Our project will provide basic screening and treatment for illnesses such as malaria, hypertension, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, and HIV infection.  Standard immunizations will be provided.  High risk women will be brought to a hospital in Thailand for delivery and all women and their babies will receive post delivery visits and care.

 Emergency Medical Care

An additional project, again funded by the grant from Slingshot Burma Fund, will provide money to pay to bring emergency cases (not limited to pregnant women) from Burma into hospitals in Thailand to receive care for life-threatening conditions, such as trauma and appendicitis.

Health Education Project

The third project funded by the above grant is to provide basic health education to villagers living in the border area who would otherwise have no access to health education.  We will target common diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, dengue, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS, concentrating on teaching prevention of these diseases.

 Many pregnant women currently receive no pre-natal care - a situation the above grant aims to remedy.

Pre-Schools in Burma

 We have received a grant from Amicus Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization for $7,000  to provide salaries and support for 6 pre-schools inside Burma for the year 2010.  These schools are supported by the villagers and give children basic education, including health education.  These schools allow the parents the chance to work, and the children a chance to get a good start in life.
